CREATIVE VISION?
For all of you obsessive Project Greenlighter's out there we have a question for you. Is the promo poster on the left anything like you imagined it would be? If you've been following the show religiously then you are well aware that the movie's writing and directing team wanted Battle of Shaker Height to be a dramedy. But as well all know, first-time writers and directors rarely get their way and as a result their and "creative vision" gets as blurry and muddy as our eyes on Saturday morning at 9am. After all of the three-way hugging, Shia's tears, and Amy Smart giving Kyle and Efraim the finger for bugging the hell out of her to make her more performance "dramatic" you see that the tag line and image for the film is jaunty and playful. And although we are utterly confused, we are so jacked to see it. We'll give you the inside scoop on how the film turns out because we are attending an advance screening. THE PRESSURE OF RIP VAN WRINKLE
Who says beauty is defined by dewy 20 year olds in baby tees and low riding jeans? Hollywood obviously, which explains why mega babes of the 80s have been going under cover (or anesthesia) for a while only to re-emerge toned and tightened. Do Hollywood Execs really believe that the public wants to look at taut skeletors with paralyzed foreheads and unusually puffy lips? When are we going to see a leading lady with deep laugh lines, a sexy little paunch or with, heaven forbid, thighs that touch? In this day and age, and with the introduction of fabulous new Haagen Dazs flavors, it is absolutely impossible for Life to imitate Art.
Kudos to Rosanna Arquette whose documentary "Searching for Debra Winger" airs Monday on Showtime. Arquette explores the challenges of the female actor and the impossible standards they must meet to stay in the limelight.
