Where did the summer go? This is something we will contemplate this
long holiday weekend. While most of us will loll in the sun and listen to
the whir of a margarita filled blender, two of our Splendora teammates
will be exploring the desert at Burning Man. Stay
tuned next week for Splendora coverage on this incredible event. And if
you're looking for the best job you ever had that won't exactly make you
an overnight millionaire but will be guaranteed fun, apply for a
position with Splendora.

VMA WINNERS & LOSERS
MTV used to be a glimpse of what's cool, a taste of the best and worst of pop culture, and a trailblazer in graphic design and animation. Now it's little more than an infomercial of recycled reality shows (do we really care about a Road Rules reunion?) and a launching pad for talent-free mannequins to bare their abs of steel and fragile personal lives for an audience of "low expectation conditioned" lemmings. Case in point: this year's VMAs held in Miami. The venue was chaotic with multiple stages jutting out amid a strategic sea of screaming "groupies" (aka paid audience members) whose obnoxious presence often obscured the performers on stage. It looked like the ugly love child of MTV Europe Awards and Spring Break circa 1991. Not a good combo. Aside from numerous underwhelming performances by hip hop/rap artists (Tupac would not be impressed), there was also an odd moment with the Kerry and Bush daughters who made the mistake of appealing to a dimwitted audience to vote in Novemb
er only to be bombarded with booing and hissing. It was difficult to tell if the audience mistakenly panned the Kerry girls thinking they were Jenna and Barb or whether it was an intentional Florida greeting. Not all was lost though. There was a great number by Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, and Lenny Kravitz. Christina did a saucy bit with Nelly, and Aussie band Jet did a tight rendition of "Are You Going to Be My Girl?" Other winners of the night? Real deal style icon Gwen Stefani whose No Doubt won two moon men. And then there was Usher who also scored a pair. Style losers? We hate to say it because we adore her to the core but as Jay-Z (who gets a fashion pass because he's always a disaster) put it "What up B?" The big hot rollered blonde hair and coppery hot pants, yikes. Then there was JLo and the hideous brown hat. Text message to Lopez: it didn't work last summer and it's not going to work now. Give that shabby chapeau to your assistant. Sell it on eBay. Better yet, you could ha
ve given it to fellow faux pas Paris to help with her bad hair day.

SONYA DAKAR AT BACARA
Gwyneth lets Sonya slough and hydrate her peaches and cream complexion, as does Debra Messing, Drew Barrymore and other poreless, porcelain wonders. Although you can visit the guru and her expert staff at their new Beverly Hills digs, you can also try Sonya's skin fitness treatments at Santa Barbara's Bacara Resort and Spa. The spa recently launched Dakar's signature no-fuss services and has been diligently getting the Southland's skin into tip top shape. We are such mega fans; after our Skin Correcting Facial and daily Sonya D. regimen, our skin has been utterly superior, even and glowing. Sonya is the ultimate secret weapon!
