| A LOVE-LOVE MATCH  Is the world ready for the next Steffi and Andre? This morning there were various reports coming out of New York announcing that Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick are an item. Both in town for the US Open and a round of endorsement hocking, the playas were trying to avoid being caught together by the 'razzi while at the launch party for Sharapova's signature fragrance. | KATRINA AND THE WAVES  First came "Video Killed the Radio Star." Soon, the videos fled the homeland and the reign of programming began. But then, like a swarm of biblical locusts, the bad shows took over those original gems we loved...120 Minutes, Remote Control, and Yo! MTV Raps. Despite public cries of help from the video-starved children of the 80's, The Real World, Date My Mom, Room Raiders and other brain-numbing content (except Laguna Beach) settled in and stayed. And now it's payback time. In response to years of vapid programming, God teamed up with Mother Nature to soak the impending VMA weekend in Miami with rain...lots and lots of rain. And they threw in some hurricane strength winds too. This double whammy will inevitably tousle $20k hairdos and produce snicker-worthy wardrobe malfunctions. Plus, the 60 ft. ocean swells may make it difficult to arrive to the red carpet via mega-yacht (take that Diddy!) Despite all of this Katrina karma, it is almost as if MTV willed the weather; note the large raindrop in their logo for the '05 awards show. And then came the rains.... |
| THE REAL FAUXHAWK  Just because you've graduated with high marks from Harvard, play muse to Zac Posen, and emanate an air of regality doesn't mean you can't flirt with the fringe of nonconformism. Observe this picture of Natalie Portman- we know the shaved head was an adjunct to her upcoming movie role, but the mohawk she currently sports must be an attempt to reveal a darker, more renegade Natalie to the world. The petite ivy-leaguer may rage against the machine, but her oh-so delicate features, fitted designer jeans, and palpable girlishness makes it difficult to disassociate her from an image of youthful innocence. Playing a stripper (i.e. Closer) or another semi-scandalous character may help to make any future mini-rebellions a tad more believable. |
