San Francisco Newsletter, April 7, 2006
What a week! Us left coasters are experiencing non-stop rain while the
New York folk are hanging in 70 degree heat and hail. Damn, Global Climate
Change is making everything all jacked up. We don't know whether to wear
flip flops or faux fur. But the bright spot of this week (and the only day
of real sunshine in SF) was this Thursday, the day that Splendora EIC,
Karen Liszt, was featured in a segment on E! News. She was not discussing
the perils of global warming with Ryan Seacrest, but rather appeared as a
talking head on a subject she's truly an expert on– celebrity fashion
commentary. We'll have the video for you to see real soon.

THE UPS & DOWNS OF FAME
This past Tuesday at half past 8 in the morning, Splendora's CEO, Gina P., and EIC, Karen L., flew down to L.A. to do a little reconnaissance work for E! Entertainment Television (a fab spot was aired last night on E! News Live featuring Karen talking about all of the new HW "It" girls- video to come soon!). But before we hit the ground let's just say that there was a little emergency...emergency landing that is. Oh yes kittens, team Splendora was on a plane that had to make an emergency landing due to some mechanical issues. Gina's pre-birth deep breathing techniques sure did help calm us down when we saw the fire trucks lining the runway upon our descent. That was the bad part of the trip, but on to the good part. While at E! trying to make our bid for stardom we did not see Ryan Seacrest, but rather spied his co-host, cute as a button Giuliana Depandi. We also had a lovely conversation with E! host Samantha Harris. And get this, while we were waiting downstairs at reception we overheard a man say that he was there to do "Nicole's makeup." Could he have been referring to Miss Richie? After making a mental sketch of him, we do indeed think that the mystery makeup man was style guru Andy LeCompte (pictured above), FON- friend of Nicole. But again, this is simple speculation. But hot damn, if we had seen Nicole Richie we would have audibly squealed like a tween at a Backstreet Boys concert. And speaking of the BSB....

RECIPE FOR DISASTER
With Katie Holmes on the verge of birthing baby Xenu/a, Tom Cruise is readying his fiancee for the event in quintessential Cruise-azy fashion. We have no problem with May-December romances, but find it more than creepy that Tom is coddling young Katie as if she herself is an infant. In accord with Scientology's belief that births should be silent, Tom reportedly ordered an adult-sized pacifier for Katie to gnaw on to quiet any painful delivery screams. Either Tom is preparing to rear two bambinos, or he believes that Katie is some breed of poultry. Think about it: he has already injected her with his alien manhood, stuffed her with child, and basted her with sloppy kisses. The adult-pacifier acts as the proverbial lemon-in-mouth to finish off the marinating process. Since Katie has been simmering and stewing for the past nine months, we expect a yummy little human morsel to emerge in the near future; he or she should provide the public with plentiful amounts of juicy Cruise family gossip for a long, long time. PS: this photo makes us think that Katie is going to pull out that baby/basketball, lace up her Air Jordans, and school Tom in a nasty game of one-on-one.

JUMPING THE SNARK
Tune into the Today show as of late, and you're likely to witness some not-so-playful banter between Katie Couric and Matt Lauer. To say there's tension between the two is an understatement. Nail-biting, awkward, heavy handed hostility is more like it. If the two weren't so professional, we'd fully expect those blah cooking segments to turn into major co-anchor beatdowns. But now Katie has found a safe haven at CBS, and her replacement Meredith Vieira is fleeing from those chatty, churlish bi-otches at The View, marking a new trend in talk TV. We call it "Jumping The Snark," or the attempt to escape Reg 'n Kathie Lee-like tensions in favor of more benign hosting duties. Less entertaining, sure, but an ultimately admirable move. Bravo, ladies.
