We simply cannot believe that the unofficial kick-off to summer,
Memorial Day, is already here. And what is even more B-A-N-A-N-A-S is that
our very own head honcho, style czar, top dog, big Kahuna, Gina Pell, is
about to have her baby boy. We predict that this weekend, between the
over-consumption of dogs n' burgers and our sympathy nerves for Gina,
we're going to have to do a little Lamaze breathing (and antacid taking)
of our own.

THE BUMMER BUNCH
The mid-'90s were all high times and fast living for Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, and Jennifer Aniston. Vince was a slim, fast-talking woman magnet, Jon was a huggable teddy bear, and "The Rachel" was sweeping the nation (both TV character and haircut). But today, Vince and Jon are sporting major under-eye bags - plus some extra "baggage". And though Jennifer is more twiggy than ever, the girl just can't catch a break. One more box office flop and she's thisclose to being branded the female Ben Affleck. The Chi-town trio (Jennifer is a honorary member) may have padded bank accounts, but they are soooo not "money." A modern day, Swingers style Vegas trip ("Vegas baby!") with them might include Vince and Jon hunched over a poker table looking bedraggled, with soporific Jen insisting they turn in early ("Breakfast buffet, baby! Egg whites only!"). We desperately need a new generation of funny men and women to replace our former favorites, and Amanda Bynes is one such up and coming comedienne. Okay, "She's The Man" was total rubbish, but she's cute, looks like a mini-Jennifer, and has long-term appeal potential. Plus, she's perky and alert, which is more than we can say for Yawniston and her lethargic looking cohorts.

DON'T FLAUNT THE VAUNT
Many moons ago, Splendora published our infamous " Most Vaunted" list. We took a look back in the Splendora time capsule at the list and "Whoa, Nelly!" were we surprised! It's amazing how, in such a short time, our picks for most beloved and reviled celebs has changed. To think, we once vaunted Katie Holmes for being able to go from "demure to diabolical in 10 seconds flat" (now she's simply catatonic), and classified Kelly Clarkson as a no-good, reality show hack (shame on us, clearly "Since You've Been Gone" is the best song EVER!). However, we still love former listees like Julianne Moore, Naomi Watts, Gwen, and against our better judgement, prissy Gywneth P. Our taste in starlets is capricious at best, but that won't prevent us from composing an updated list of our favorite tabloid-friendly friends. We can't wait to revisit our lineup a year from now.
Splendora's Most Vaunted, 2006:
1. Zooey Deschanel- She's quirky, cute, and has a slightly snarky, but not spiteful, edge. We adore her acting skills and primo fashion choices.
2. Maggie Gyllenhaal- Finally, a starlet who actually has an intelligent POV. You'll never catch Maggie drawling about how "totally HOT" something is.
3. Mandy Moore- This fresh faced singer/actress/designer is a mega-star minus the attitude. All this, and she's the apple of Zach Braff's eye.
4. Edie Falco- How can you not love Carm? Seriously, she's the best actress on TV.
5. Heidi Klum- While we're not totally wild about her, we heart Project Runway and think that she and Seal are the real deal.

AMERICAN IDOL WRAP-UP
This season of American Idol has come and gone...sigh. They really ratcheted up the star power this year and brought out the big guns week after week. This year's performers included Shakira, Meatloaf, Mary J. Blige, and out of the purple, Prince. But what was just as interesting as who was on the stage was who was in the audience. Tori Spelling, David Hasselhoff, Rachel Bilson, Carmen Electra and others clearly got caught up in the "McPheever" and were seen in the crowd waving oaktag posters, hootin' and hollerin', and in the case of the Hoff, crying. But our favorite moment of the season is hands down the surprise performance during the finale by crooner K.D. Lang...oh wait, that was just Clay Aiken with a new dyed 'do. Our bad.
