UNUSUAL UPGRADES
When you're one-half of a newly separated power couple, your future romances are inevitably subjected to major scrutiny. Perhaps the biggest question on everyone's mind: Who will the spouseless celeb hook up with next, and how will their new partner stack up to the last one (in looks, personality, success, et cetera)? Take Nicole Kidman, for example; after she and Tom split, many wondered how she could possibly "top" being married to the world's biggest movie star. The task ended up being less difficult after Tom went Scientology-ballistic in the press. Suddenly Keith Urban, though already super-hot and adorable, became more desirable than Mr. Risky Business himself. Turns out that once your former partner has revealed their skeeve factor to the public, fans will embrace whoever you couple with next, however surprising the match may be. Here are a few more examples of the "unusual upgrade" pattern:
Heather Locklear and David Spade: Okay, so they're "just good friends." But since Richie Sambora decided to dally around with her former BFF, Spade has had Heather's back. He's quick to poke fun of Denise Richards on The Showbiz Show, and not in a playful way. Who needs a rockstar when you've got a loyal, caustic comic by your side? David Spade = upgrade!

IT TURNED INTO A BUTTER BLITZ
One night, two fights, both involving Lindsay Lohan. This week, Linds-Lo got caught up in tiffs with both Paris Hilton and Diddy at NYC hotspot Butter. The quarrels were so petty, so very juvenile, you'd think the three were hanging out on a high school campus, not at a premiere nightclub. First, Lindsay reportedly followed "head cheerleader" Hilton into the bathroom, where an argument quickly erupted. Who knows what the fight was about; maybe it came about because Paris and Brandon Davis were talking smack about Linds a couple weeks ago, or because - ugh! - Lindsay was, like, totally talking to Paris' ex-boyfriend, Stavros, a while back. The hussy! Next, Lindsay headed back to her table, where Diddy and co. decided to plant themselves. Hell-o! It's common knowledge that once you establish your spot in the cafeteria, err, club, other cliques are forbidden from trespassing on the hallowed ground. But since Lindsay is a mere underclassman and Diddy is clearly the Homecoming king, he was able to have her booted from the area to fraternize with fellow freshman "losers" (i.e., she was kicked out of the club). "Biggest Drama Queen" is the perfect superlative to describe Lindsay's involvement in the whole ordeal ("Biggest Bee-yotch" would be a little too harsh, no?). Oh, how those Drama club geeks like to stir up trouble!
