| While this week was seemingly all about catwalks and
"cat people"
,
it ended totally cuckoo crazy with the shocking news of Anna Nicole
Smith's sudden death. We're just trying to catch our collective
breath...pant, pant, wheeze, wheeze. We need to chillax this weekend in
order to be tip-top for Valentine's Day. |

FALL 2007 FASHION WEEK: A FINAL ROUNDUP
Like
the miserable weather that's hit both coasts recently (blustery wind in
the East and pelting rain out West), the fashion forecast for fall 2007
looks to be quite grey with a dash of tweed. We were dedicated style
students this week, clicking back to
Style.com
on a daily basis, waiting with bated breath for each new crop of show
photos to surface. From one lookbook to the next, all we saw was a
whole lot of grey, black, blah, and a few pops of royal blue. We won't
go completely Debbie Downer on you, as there were a couple of extraordinary highlights. Former pioneer of the grunge aesthetic,
Marc Jacobs,
emerged from the gym looking trim and clean cut (but still smokin' tons
of cigs), with a ladylike collection to match his personal makeover.
Come September, officemates will don high-waisted wares and sport
leather gloves at all times. Phillip Lim proved why he has been an
editor darling, displaying innovative cuts, making bow ties seem
wearable, and, hello, producing a collection we can actually afford!
Proenza Schouler's presentation, meanwhile, failed to live up to the
high standards we usually hold them to (although they always have a
stellar front row). Their presentation was a little dark and stormy.
But thankfully we can go to Target and stock up on their pop-colored
GO! International pieces. (Sidenote: the purple bustier dress is
dazzling in person, and the threads actually run true-to-size, for the
most part.) See, runway to reality is within your reach.

ANNA NICOLE: A LIFE IN RED LIPSTICK
Yesterday
afternoon, we were going about our merry business when E.I.C. Karen
received a frenzied Instant Message with the news that Anna Nicole
Smith had passed away. We immediately hopped onto every gossip blog and
news site possible for more info, and within a mere five minutes, the
report was confirmed. Major shocker, for sure. The poor girl had such a
rocky year, and we mourn for her newborn baby, Dannielynn. We've poked
fun at Anna in the past, but in light of this shocking news, we prefer
to look back on our favorite moments from the life of this brazen
bombshell.
The Early Years: Claudia who? Remember when
she was channeling Marilyn Monroe and sporting those skin tight (kinda)
acid-wash jeans in those Guess ads? Hot stuff. The Anna Nicole Show:
Besides having a catchy themesong ("She's so outrageous!"), this
delightful bite of reality television gave us a comical - albeit not
always intentionally so - look into her life. We cheered when she
finally kicked Bobby Trendy to the curb. The Heatherette Comeback:
If there's one fashion threesome that was destined to be, it was Richie
Rich and Traver Rains picking Anna to model for them during her
short-lived comeback period. She lip-synched to "Diamonds Are a Girl's
Best Friend" on the runway and writhed her hips for show-goers. So
effervescent, so happy, so Anna.
