Team Splendora is gearing up for Oscar Week. We'll be cruising down to LA on the 5 in our hybrid, stopping at In-N-Out
on the way, just so we can cover the Academy Awards hullabaloo for you.
We'll be at the style suites, the pre-parties, and whatever festivities
strike our collective fancy. Get ready LA, 'cause here we come! |

WHY WE LOVE TYRA
Oh Tyra, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways: 1) You had a tearful sit down
with convicted crazy a$$ beater Naomi Campbell. You are lucky she
didn't smack you upside the head when you confronted her about her evil
ways. Brava! 2) You talk openly about your weave, parade
around in crazy getups like velour capri pant sweatsuits, and do
"investigative reporting" that essentially consists of dressing up like
a dude or a homeless person. 3) In a recent episode
when you traipsed out on stage in a bandeau bathing suit to confront
the tabloid rumors that you had gained 40 lbs., we loved how you talked
about your belly rolls ad nauseam. A girl after our own heart. 4)
You impart your sassy opinion on every guest who rolls on stage and
give the occasional eye roll/finger wag when they're being stank. 5) You're not afraid to book booty talent like
Danity Kane. 6) Because Oprah went soft, and Ricki Lake was cancelled.
Totally Tyra! |

HARDY TIMES AND CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
How's this for movie news: Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller will team up to play The Hardy Boys - nay, The Hardy Men
- in a big screen adaptation of the classic kids' series. Whether this
is a brilliant idea or pure film poison is yet to be seen, but it's
interesting that these two acting behemoths would choose juvenile
sleuths (albeit grown up sleuths) as their next big roles. It's pretty
clever, if you think about it. Everyone's got a soft spot for their
favorite childhood heroes/heroines, so there's a built-in audience just
waiting to be reeled in. Admit it: a collection of Nancy Drew novels still lines the top shelf of your closet, and you'll readily plunk down $10 to see teenage cutie
Emma Roberts whip out her magnifying glass to find out what that suspicious, devious neighbor is up to. (Cue ominous score.) The Baby-Sitter's Club already received a less-than-stellar movie treatment, though it did feature a pre-
She's All That Rachael Leigh Cook as mousy Mary Anne. Now, the Hollywood establishment really needs to jump on adaptations of some
Judy Blume novels and the Sweet Valley High series. The latter would call for Hayden Panettiere to play a dual role as both Wakefield twins (a la Lindsay Lohan in Freaky Friday),
with Rachel Bilson as Jessica's BFF Lila. (She does have the frame of a
sixteen-year-old, after all.) This is the kind of entertainment fluff
we crave - something to bring us back to our tween years and incite
memories of cheesy reading and rounds of "Spin the Bottle" at birthday
parties. Are you there, Jerry Weintraub? It's us, Splendora. We've got
your next couple of projects lined up.
Young Adult reading ain't what it used to be. |

LOVE IS IN THE AIR
Valentine's
Day, with its candy hearts, sappy cards, and fuzzy, singing stuffed
animals, is one of the year's most glorious holidays. Commercial and
over-hyped, yes, but glorious nonetheless. We hope you had fun, whether
you spent it with a S.O., your best girlfriends, or watching a
guilty-pleasure flick on Lifetime. The love bug seems to have bit Tinseltown, too, as many celebs have been seen getting cozy and romantic.
Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy
prove that funny folk flock toward one other, and that couples - not
just owners and their pets - can start to look alike over time. We're
giddy with happiness over the news that our favorite Ugly Betty
is in love and engaged,
and we can't wait to celebrate with a double-scoop of Ben & Jerry's
Stephen Colbert Americone Dream ice cream (another lovely marriage).
And forget about the reunion of Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler - if
there's one coupling that's even more perplexing, it's the
semi-sensuous meeting of Vera Wang and Serta Mattresses, as seen in this ad. So very odd. We give the partnership a year, tops.
