Top 5 Best Shopping Faves in Dumbo Brooklyn

Top 5 Best Shopping Faves in Dumbo Brooklyn

After spending time in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge) Brooklyn, we came up with the conclusion that DUMBO is what Soho was in the '80s—brand new, exciting, and filled with chic, intelligent, artsy trendsetters. And did we mention the shopping? Incredible! Here's our top 5 shops in DUMBO:

1. Powerhouse Books - One of the best bookstores we've seen. They're known for their ultra cool built-in arena, which they use to showcase a series of exhibitions and performances in art—fusing all areas; photography, design, fashion, pop culture, advertising, music, dance, film and television. We felt a rush when we got a glimpse of Marc Jacobs set-up materials.

2. Blueberi - The latest Beri from Suewayne Brown. A well-edited collection for the  sophisticate. They carry European faves like Anglomania Vivienne Westwood and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel as well as exceptional local designers like Sweet William. They're on 143A Front Street.

3. Nos Shoes - You're sure to find a pair of sexy shoes here. And owner Racquel Nosworthy makes sure to add a little funky to the mix. She carries sought-after brands like Pour la Victoire, Corso Como and Matiko.

4. Zoe - You'll find the latest from the runway in this luxurious 3,500 sq. ft boutique stocked with Lanvin, Matthew Williamson, Rag & Bone and other Splendora favorites. We've seen pieces here that aren't even available in Manhattan.

5. Pomme- Sweet store for the kids with fun finds from all over the globe. They carry exquisite toys, clothes and home decor. Great place for those last-minute baby shower gifts.

Favorite Soho Boutique For Edgewear

Favorite Soho Boutique For Edgewear

Seven New York on Mercer Street in Soho is our favorite spot to find cutting edge, under-the-radar designers like Jean-Pierre Braganza and Haider Ackermann—lables you won't find in most boutiques. We tried on a four-figure Gareth Pugh ($2500) but opted for some sensibly priced Ksubi trousers. If you can't make it to Manhattan, try their website. Warning: you may find it as difficult to navigate as Soho streets during rush hour, but good shopping is often challenging. 10.30.2009

Frieze 2009

London’s Frieze Art Fair is a great reminder that every corner of the globe contains spotlight-worthy works of art. At this year’s installment we saw show-stealing pieces from Berlin, Tokyo, New York, Sao Paolo, San Francisco and London (Chantal Joffe's Two Coats, shown here, was a standout). It’s the perfect incentive to do a bit of gallery-trolling in your own neighborhood. Check out the highlights that caught our eye.
