What to Local: Indian Springs, Calistoga CA

Oh what I wouldn't give for a spa weekend at Indian Springs. You stay in private little 1920's bungalows with depression era kitchens and great front porches at the foot of the wine country hills and spend your day spa-ing---I had a life changing massage there. The entire place is impeccably designed, like a Gatsby-era CA getaway. I love white washed walls, the zen-ed out pond at the back and adore the pictures of the swimsuit pagents that were held there in the 20's. But the crown jewel of the compound is the geyser fed, Olympic size pool which naturally stays anywhere from 92-100 degrees. It's perfect to relax between treatments or for a late night swim after some croquet and mini corndogs at Taylor's Refresher down the road. Trust me you will leave positively glowing.

What to Local: Jeff Koons on the Roof

There's been so much buzz about the Superhero exhibition at the Met that many are forgetting that there is a giant gleaming balloon dog in the house. Three of Jeff Koon's lighthearted, larger than life sculptures; Yellow Dog, Sacred Heart and Coloring Book will be living on the roof of the museum through the end of October. So when you need a little break from the Rembrants and Rubens head to the roof for a little sun, some cheery pop art, and a stellar view of Central Park.

What to Local: Staley Wise Gallery

For any magazine monger and fan of fashion photography I recommend stopping by the Staley Wise Gallery in Soho. A veritable one-stop shop for the masters behind those iconic images that graced the pages of Vogue, Bazaar and Vanity Fair; Avedon, Ritts, Klein, Horst, just to name a few. Currently they are showcasing 12 platinum prints from Lillian Bassman. The images of gamine, couture clad ladies make you wonder how that the entire population of NY in the 1950's seemed to be so effortlessly chic and fabulous.
