portishead third - what to listen

portishead third - what to listen

What to Listen: Portishead Third

The songs from Glory Box and Dummy epitomize NYC in the late 90's for me. Visiting here often during those years I could hear the sound of Beth Gibbons voice and that lounge-y trip hop beat oozing out of every little hipster dive in the city. Both albums are timeless but I am more than excited to have some fresh Portishead in the rotation. If you are at all a fan, Third will not disappoint. It's still dark and moody sublimely laced with strings and Gibbon's voice is just as haunting as ever but there is a little more grit this time around. All in all still perfect for a rainy day in the city or cozying up with some boy in jeans smaller than yours in some dark bar.
