What to Accessory: Matchstick Necklace

Here at Splendora, we pride ourselves on possessing extraordinarily sophisticated senses of humor (our brainstorm sessions for the This or That polls would render Jon Stewart speechless). Thats why we love this irreverent sterling-silver matchstick necklace. It gets us fired up for making funnies.

What to Gobble and Guzzle: Kosher Vending Machines

Just because you keep Kosher doesn't mean you don't get the munchies. But when dietary no-nos like Twinkies and Happy Meals are your only fast food options, and you can't get uptown to Zabar's, what's a hungry gal to do? Hit up a Hot Nosh 24/6 kosher vending machine for a potato knish, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, hot dogs, and deep-dish cheese pizza (no 'roni though). The first machine was installed earlier this month and more will be popping up soon.

What to Hair: Bronde

If Blonde and Brunette had an illegitimate lovechild, it would be Bronde. This caramel-colored shade is too dark to be full-on Blonde, but too light and honey-toned to be a classic Brunette. Jennifer Aniston practically invented this hue - other devotees include Fergie, Gisele, and Lauren "You Know What You Did" Conrad from The Hills. Profiled briefly in this month's Glamour, Bronde works wonderfully on both fair and olive skin-tones and eliminates the problem of harsh, contrasting roots. We say: if you're looking to deepen your 'do for fall, or add sunny streaks without going Paris platinum, embrace the Bronde.

What to Hair: Coiff Controle Ironless Straightening Balm

The road to glossy, stick-straight hair is often paved with gloppy gels, heavy-duty blowdryers, and hour-long tug-of-wars with a paddle brush. Throw a scorching flatiron into the mix and you got yourself a bathroom battlefield - not to mention a potential blown fuse. That's why we sleek-hair seekers were intrigued when we heard about Frederic Fekkai's new Coiff Controle Ironless Straightening Balm. The sheer, non-chemical balm promises salon-sleek blowout results sans stylist, and contains natural vitamins and minerals to moisturize and strengthen. If you can't have Chris McMillan permanently on call, this sounds like the next best thing.

What to Makeup: LORAC Mocktail

There are times when a girl just needs a cocktail (Vegas vacations and awkward dinner parties come to mind). But there are some moments when, no matter how much you crave a heavy-on-the-rum Mai Tai, it's just not socially acceptable to indulge (i.e. Monday's staff meeting). When these situations arise, swipe on a shiny LORAC Mocktail lip gloss to get a taste of your favorite tropical drink sans alcohol. Flavors like Caffeini Martini, Razberi Cosmo, and Tequila Sunrise are sure to perk you up - without any threat of a morning-after headache.

What to DVD: Wordplay

If you're like us, it sometimes takes a village to finish the New York Times crossword puzzle (a village, a dictionary, Wikipedia...). That's why we loved a peek at the alternate world documented in Wordplay, a film exposing the secret brainy world of professional puzzlers. Enjoy an insider look at Times puzzlemaster Will Shortz and the other intellectuals who create and solve the hardest of crosswords, as well as interviews with avid puzzlers like Jon Stewart, Bill Clinton, and Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina (who knew?). The flick culminates with a nail-biting trip to the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. We must admit, watching a guy solve a Times crossword in 2.02 minutes inspired us to give the Sunday puzzle a go ... in pencil, of course.

What to Wear: Stephenson Mercer Fisherman Jeans

When it comes to jeans, we've pretty much exhausted all our cut and color options. (Red skinnies? Check. Gray high-waist trousers? Check) In order to stay en vogue, we must now turn our attention to detailing. The nautical buttons on these Stephenson jeans are fun and quirky, and will make you stand out in a crowd without resorting to garish metallic denims. They also have a sweet buckle-flap in the back. We can thank the Gorton's Fisherman for being quite the trendsetter.

What to Gobble and Guzzle: Bella's Confections Fudge

When a beautiful box of Bella's Confections gourmet fudge arrived at the Splendora office, it was every woman for herself. Elbows were thrown, tears were shed, feelings were hurt - seriously, this stuff is that good. The delicious, melt-in-your-mouth goodies are the perfect chewy consistency and come in flavors like Vanilla Caramel Pecan, Chocolate With Walnuts, and Peanut Butter Decadence (our personal fave). We're terrified for when the special holiday flavors (like Pumpkin Pecan Spice and Peppermint Stick Bark) hit Splendora - it could easily turn into World War III.

What to Gobble and Guzzle: Cheese Board Collective Works

Any self-respecting Bay Area foodie is intimately familiar with the Cheese Board, a Berkeley collective famous for its scrumptious pastries, fresh-baked bread, flavorful cheeses, and gourmet thin-crust pizza. Now, home chefs across the nation can re-create their treasured recipes with the Cheese Board Collective Works cookbook (and at $15, it's much cheaper than a flight into Oakland International). Just put in a little kitchen time, and voila: corn-cherry scones, pecan sticky rolls, and sourdough potato pizza are at your fingertips.

What to Accessory: Sprinkles Necklace

Cupcakes have long reigned supreme in our What to Gobble/Guzzle. We've witnessed the cupcake carrier, the giant cupcake pan, the cupcake-mix-in-a-box. And who could forget the ice-cream cupcake? It's high time Splendora's fave tasty treat transitioned into other areas of the blog. Thus, we present to you this sweet silver necklace by Laurel Denise. Printed on a thin piece of paper, encased in handmade translucent glass, are the words "With Sprinkles On Top" and a sketch of our dessert of choice. Now if only there was a way to integrate cupcakes into What to Read or What to DVD ...
