This venerable bookstore is the antithesis of the sprouting corporatization of booksellers. Oh sure, they have the bestsellers, but you'll have to get your latte elsewhere. Browsing through the narrow aisles, the scholar in you will adore exploring the collection of books packed into the shelves and piled high on the floor. You'll find titles that you won't see elsewhere and a great collection of art/photography books, like one on European erotic postcards dating back to the mid-1800s or vintage Soviet advertising posters. The unusually knowledgeable staff will guide you in your search for anything. But the big late-night draw--'til midnight--is the extensive outdoor magazine selection and international newsstand.
