Chaya Venice
This high-style bistro, with its supple leather booths, modern Japanese art, and much-happening bar scene, is our favorite Westside hangout. Studio heads, artists, and yuppies grub on fresh treats from the sushi bar or order from an array of international dishes specializing in seafood. Begin with wonton dumplings with shrimp and crab or grilled jumbo asparagus with smoked salmon and caviar--both are yummy sensory overload. We've tried pretty much everything and it's hard to go wrong here. We do, however, recommend sumptuous entrees such as the seared soy-marinated Hawaiian tuna or the Chaya rib-eye steak with three-peppercorn butter sauce and perfect pommes frites. All this will come to a fabulous end if you do it right--order the banana banana banana, an absolutely delish combo of banana tart, banana ice cream, and frozen chocolate bananas.
