From the jam containers hand-painted by an artisan in L.A. to the Limoges teacups, the custom-blended teas to the Frette linens, The Peninsula Afternoon Tea is the real deal. The Living Room is small, with about eight couch-laden zones for parties of three or four. Connected to both the main lobby and the veranda of The Belvedere, The Peninsula's 5-diamond restaurant, it is by no means an ultra-grandiose or super-private venue for tea. It is, however, perfect for the kind of tea where hoity-toity decorum is less important than casual comfort. The service is top notch and the treats, which include house-smoked salmon and house-baked scones, are delightful.
