We stumbled into Bar 89 after snagging the very last rectangular safety orange backpack that Jack Spade's cute salesguy had to offer. Tired from shopping and flirting, we ordered some Miller Lite (the lowest calorie beer out there) and a fat burger to share (not low-cal in any way), and nary an eye blinked at our trashy choices, a huge surprise considering the minimalist high design of the place. Turns out that sleek, chic Bar 89, with its monotone gray coloration and puckish rose-on-every-table decor, serves only a high-end wings-n-fries bar menu. Ah, New York and its love affair with trailer culture! A must-see is the incredible unisex bathroom, where the giant glass doors go opaque as soon as you drop the latch.
