Just outside the entrance to the elegant restaurant is a small foyer in the lobby of the Jumeirah Essex House where afternoon tea is served. Though the art deco marble and mahogany decor is not as lush or private as the plant laden restaurant, the tea service is top notch. Consult with the educated wait staff before choosing from the large selection of artfully displayed teas. Don't rush. The teapot is filled continually, so there's plenty of time to savor the exquisite tray of pastries, sandwiches, and scones with homemade lemon curd and strawberry preserves. If you can turn your gaze from the delicacies, sit back and enjoy the view onto Central Park.
