The Spa at Chelsea Piers
Watsu therapist Susan Gala greets you from a warm Jacuzzi, jets off, in a soaring glass room overlooking the Hudson at Chelsea Piers. Watsu is an intimate form of healing bodywork, combining shiatsu massage with gentle aquatic movement. Susan cradles you in her arms with your head resting on the water, ears below the surface. As she manipulates your limbs and spine, the sound of the water creates a surreal, sealed-in environment. The conscious mind seems to meet the unconscious as your spine loosens and your spirit becomes as weightless as your body. This is not an easy therapy for New Yorkers because the cradling is intimate and trust is an important factor for success. That said, an hour-long session will undoubtedly reawaken the spirit and leave you feeling refreshed.
