The Cheese Board
This heaven of dairy-rific delights run Berkeley style is a friendly, family collective. The East Bay institution lists its hundreds of cheeses on a giant chalkboard, and if you need help choosing between the (gulp) twenty-one varieties of blue cheese, the staff will happily take a break from kneading bread to offer tasty slivers of cheese and advice. The Cheese Board is packed between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. when locals come by to pick up a corn-cherry scone or brioche for their commuter sustenance. Try one of the famous cheese rolls, sinfully delicious and packed with calories. Coffee is served in the morning, but Peets is also one block away.
