Fashion Who's Who 2008: Ruth FinleyRUTH FINLEYSince 1941, Ruth Finley has been publishing the Fashion Calendar, an indispensable, multiple-page bi-weekly listing of every single international fashion event (runway shows, store openings, trunk shows, showroom re-sees, parties - you name it), ensuring, among other things, that people know exactly when and where an event is taking place and preventing designers from double-booking their shows (as happened last February, for instance, when Tuleh and 3.1 Phillip Lim both scheduled their runway presentations for 7pm on a Sunday at opposite ends of town, forcing editors and buyers to have to choose between one or the other - not good). Now 87, calendar girl Finley is a friendly, grandmotherly presence with an always-pleasant demeanor that helps humanize a sometimes cold-hearted industry. |
