Coltan is a metallic ore, elements of which are, found in our cellphones, laptops, and other electronics. There's a large amount of Coltan being mined in the Congo and it is said to be a major source of income for the brutal military occupation. Meanwhile we, who always have to have the latest gadgets(!), are upgrading our cellphones, tossing away our old ones, and throwing away this precious substance into the trash.
