One film unfortunately overlooked by the Academy this year was Shame, director Steve McQueen's beautifully executed portrait of a sex addict, played by Michael Fassbender. It is brazenly honest yet gracefully subtle in its depiction one man's dependancy and troubled relationship with his sister (Carey Mulligan).
