There's Something About the Sixties |
|
|
|
Calling all earth angels. Lately, talk of the golden decade of free love, cascading curls, and experimentation is all we've been hearing. Many proclaim that the Sixties are back, and you'd find us hard pressed to disagree. In addition to psychedelic Pucci-print dresses and flower headbands, our culture and our minds are taking a cue from our free will predecessors. We're ready to go full on hippie on everyone, liberating ourselves from the shackles of skinny jeans and political double-speak alike. Take a look at filmmaker Julie Taymor, who's using Beatles songs to reinvent the musical in her upcoming release, Across the Universe . Meanwhile, activism, we're happy to say, will never be passe. The strength of the green revolution and deserved attention on other pressing social issues is proof positive that we're ready for change. ("When do we want it?" "NOW!") The art world is paying tribute to the sixties, too, with The Whitney's "Summer of Love" exhibit. So who's the next Warhol? Dylan? Time will tell, but it's exciting to know that creative and independent thought are being celebrated. Now excuse us while we don a groovy frock and roll around in the grass for a while.

Katherine Heigl, known to most primetime viewers as Dr. Izzie, has been on the fast track to stardom lately. She's the lead in one of our favorite summer flicks, Knocked Up, has an adorable fiance by her side, and has been making quite the name for herself on the red carpet too. With all this success, she's taken the next logical career step: she's launching a line of scrubs. Yeah, scrubs - as in those pastel colored threads you can find at an ER near you. Cute, bubbly, and impeccably dressed as she is, we're not sure that "fun colors and fashionable prints" can save hospital wear from being drab and dowdy. Sure, they've got standard-issue, high-waisted pants and the v-neck tops, but it's not the kind of gear that the trend-crazy public yearns for. We have a Code Blue people, this line is DOA.
