A rose is a rose is a rose my husband just sent me a dozen roses for my birthday. they are pink and very pretty (no babies breath), but i'm over roses. so much so, that i had him rip up the rose bushes at our house this past weekend. this is such a sweet gesture and i love him for it...BUT did he not hear how many times i commented on how happy i was to be rid of roses and that there are soooo many other beautiful flowers to plant (or in this case give!). he even agreed and said he's never liked them either. my girlfriends get it--sending me peonies, tuilps and hydrangeas, all of which are my known favorites. but roses?!? our anniversary is in a few months and and i'm trying to think of how i can subtly put the word out that it's time to look for another flower. ok, i know this is the silliest of all complaints and i probably sound like an ungrateful, bitch of a wife, but i figured if anyone would understand, it would be all my splendoritas. i feel better already. |

I see where you were going...
But just to keep things in perspective, I've NEVER had a guy send me flowers of any kind. OK, I do sorta tend to date jerks, but let's just think about that for a minute...

gguuurrrlllll.....
behave yourself. ;-] you're reminding me of the carnation story with carrie and jack berger on SATC. it was sweet of him to send flowers, and yes, roses are all i get too.
signed, your birthday buddy

I hear ya sister....
1st off) HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 2) To men as we all know they are just happy they completed the "Get me flowers" task that they haven't even moved on to what your fave flower is yet :)Plus I'm convinced a rose is the only flower they know. Yesterday at Trader Joe's I brought home some peonies one of my faves and My hubby said "What are those?" and I told him and he shook his head slowly. Guaranteed I will be getting those in the near future because he saw me pick them for myself otherwise it would be roses all the time!

Happy Birthday!
Men don't listen. They get trained through repetition to do jobs - take out the trash, change lightbulbs, kill spiders in high corners. So just be happy that he was sweet enough to remember to do something that only happens once a year!
And of course, have a fantastic b-day :)

meaning of pink roses...
ok, so i have to comment on my own diary entry b/c i feel so bad... my husband just shared with me that pink roses mean ' sweetness, gentleness and admiration' which is why he sent them to me. my diary entry wasn't sweet or gentle. shame on me!
