Halloween is around the corner! Admittedly, one of my favorite lines from Mean Girl's is when Cady (Lindsay Lohan's character) says: "Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it. " Okay, so while I appreciate a naughty nurse, slutty sailor girl, busty bumblebee [i can't believe insects can be slutty, too?!?], trampy vampy etc. just as much as the next repressed Catholic, does anyone have any ideas for costumes that don't involve fishnets or body glitter? Gotta have Faith, Faith, Faith! I have always thought Faith Hill was gorgeous, but when I saw her cover on next month's Shape magazine and read that she's 41 and has 3 kids... man, that is impressive. Talk about looking Extra Foxy! Go Faith! Tis the Season...Okay, so maybe it's not the holidays just yet, but charity circuit season has started up once more in NYC and I am again stumped with age-old question: what should I wear? Once upon a time (and not really so long ago), my context of fundraisers was pretty much limited to selling candy bars to send the local high school football team to states... community bake sales... I wore end-of-season, marked-down BCBG dresses and thought I looked handsome. Remember when Jessica McClintock was really "fancy"? But now, we are in the Age of RealiTV where all we see is Real Housewives of [insert city] and shows about teenagers who go to private school wearing $3,000 handbags. When did philanthropy become more about fashion?
Shine on you crazy diamond This dress has me on the verge of tears... Oh that I were 5'10" and 105lbs.... and a bejillionaire.
(picture from NYMag.com) Wowzaaaa! With all this eco-politico chaos, I almost forgot to be depressed/elated for the weekend wedding of ScarJo and RyRe.
Agent 00-Sexy WWD reports: Sean Connery is rumoured to be the next face for Louis Vuitton. Please don't wake up from this dream. Please don't wake up from this dream. If you've never seen... Varsity Blues, please put that at the top of your Netflix queue.
Fashion and Finance As I continue to watch my stocks and 401k disappear before my eyes, I am wondering how much this will curb my desire for all things fabulous. As you may know, I work in finance. I am [very luckily] not one of the many who has been let go from Bear Stearn or Lehman. But by no means, is there any way that I will be buying my dream home given the current market. But, I still find myself on Saks.com and swooning over bags and shoes. I look around Wall Street, and ladies, believe me when I say this - if not for the constant camera crews, you could not tell that we are at the dawn of a recession. Fendi bags. Chanel suits. The Financial District just opened a Brioni, Hermes, and not long ago a Tiffany. There's a theory that the Rich are less moved by fluctuations in the market. In fact, the NYT said we are in the age of riches (amidst the credit crisis in fall of '07 no less). And yet, the ROB index fund (which tracks the luxury goods sector) is at an all time low. As my resident experts in Fabulous, I'd love to hear what you ladies think. Will you have to go first-class rather than private jet? Will Mossimo replace Moschino in your closets? NYC Fashion Week Has Begun!!! I just got back from the Michael Angel show which opened SS09 Fashion Week. The clothes were AMAZING. Flowing fabrics, electric blue and fuchsia, Swarovski detailing. It was a beautiful show. I had the pleasure of meeting him after the show, and he is not only incredibly talented, he's always such a sweet guy! "My girl is modern, sexy, confident and at the same time, she has that dash of rock 'n roll in her..." says Angel. Does that not describe the perfect girl? Check out his Fall 08 collection. It's gorgeous as well! Bisoux (picture from elle.com) Still OldtasticThis weekend, I ran my first 10k as part of the Nike+ Human Race that took place in 25 cities around the world. (Proceeds benefitted the UN Refugee Agency, the Lance Armstrong Foundation or the WWF). I ran in NYC of course. I was amazed by the turn out, more than 20,000 participants. By the grace of two very nice young men who encouraged me incessantly, I actually ran the entire time (save for the footbridge that all the runners had to walk across). And once again, I just want to reaffirm. I am oldtastic. My knees have been aching since Sunday. I even googled a podiatrist today, because I think I may have somehow broken my foot. Anyone else run it? |
