My Foot Broke

Well, after many a rolled ankle on the streets of SF, I actually broke a bone this time, in my left foot, about three and half weeks ago. And I was only walking!! Not running, or hiking, or dismounting from the uneven bars in the Olympics, I was simply walking down a small hill on my way to the bus stop (only 1inch wedge shoes), tripped over some cracks, and instead of landing on my bum, all my weight crashed onto my foot, ugh. I have been wearing a 'boot' for the last few weeks, and even though most of my foot will be better soon, the doctor says I still have about 4 more weeks to heal completely, because I managed to tear a few small ligaments as well, sigh. I am fully aware of what a minor injury this is in the grand scheme of things, but being that I walk and bus it everywhere, it has been a frustrating 3 weeks. Next week should be a highlight though, the doctor said I can drop the boot and get into a 'stiff soled' shoe for the rest of my healing time. The list of stiff soled shoes that he gave me includes: Z-Coil, Sketchers, Hush Puppies, etc. Er, the only 'athletic' shoes I have ever worn in my life have been of the Vans, Keds, and Converse variety, and I don't mean that as a slight to the other brands, I'm just a simple sneaks kinda girl, and most often I wear flats, so my choice of causal shoes is pretty basic. I'm at a loss of where to begin. Seriously, if you Slendoritas have any suggestions of a cute 'stiff soled' shoe that I will not be bummed that I spent major moola on to only  wear for a month, please let me know, or else I might just keep the boot on. Thats me hoobling in the FiDi.

First Lady Carla Bruni

August is around the corner, and this time of year is always exciting for a magazine-aholic such as myself, because all the huge Fall/September issues make their way onto the newstands. I get so overwhelmed cause I want to buy them all at once, but I can only carry so many "Biggest Issues EVER" at a time so usually all the mags make it to my home over a three day period. I already subscribe to a handful of mags but I always find more to covet and I will be eagerly awaiting the new Vanity Fair. The First Lady of France,Carla Bruni, graces the cover in all her royalness, and from the bits of the interview that New York Magazine has been so thoughtful to share, I cannot wait to read more!

Remember Robyn?..

..from the 90's? "Show Me Love" was her pop hit, but maybe it won't be her one-hit wonder. She had an album released across the pond last year to lots of love from her Euro fans, and she recently released the album stateside. "Robyn" is a pretty awesome dance/pop/elctroclash CD thats up-beat and cheeky. I got a chance to see her last Friday at Bimbos, and I have to say I was impresed with her strong singing live. Everyone, (including me) was dancing around to her enthusiastic voice and well dressed (skinny suits), talented band, it made for a very fun evening!! Her CD is half of my Top 25 on my ipod and of course "Show Me Love" is in there too, so I can bring back the 90's on the muni ride home.

Here's on of her recent video's. I'm totally jealous of all the Jeremy Scott clothes she's wearing.

I Heart Marilyn Minter

I have already professed my love for the artist Marilyn Minter in a previous diary entry, but I everytime I see her work it just continues to impress me. Her paintings are so clear and hyper-realistic, that it's hard sometimes for me to distinguish them from her photos. So imagine my super excitment when I found out she was one of the artists participating in the Gap Artists Limited Edition Whitney Biennial T-Shirts! Woo-hoo, I'm stoked! I just got my tee this weekend with Marilyn's painting of designer shoes splashing in the mud screened on the front, and there are so many other great artists participating, but sadly most of them are sold out, ugh. The Chuck Close one is already gone, booo, but the others include: Jeff Koons, Glenn Ligon, Barbra Kruger, and more. Hooray for art!

Scarlett J

Scarlett Johansson's CD of Tom Waits covers, "Anywhere I Lay My Head" is coming soon to an iTunes near you, and she just released her first video. I heart it, very dreamy and vibe-y taken in the day of her life as a actress/ recording artist. But, I still haven't decided how I feel about her singing, I'm gonna think on that some more.....

Random Question

So, did Jem (and the Halograms) actually fight crime, or was she just "truly, truly, outageous"?? I do know that the Misfits where always drinking some Hateraide (in the words of my BFF Stef). Hmmm..... maybe I should get this to answer my question...

The Diddy

I didn't know what to expect for the MTV reality special following P.Diddy on his road to showing his fall collection at this past Fashion Week in New York; craziness, yelling, bitch-ass-ness. 'If I Were King' was a pleasant surprise, and I was impressed by the pretty accurate depiction of all the inner workings of following a season show from start to finish. Even better, it actually showed some stressful moments that produced some especially funny Diddy-isms. I know Sean John can occasionally come across as just another rich, arrogant celebrity,  but I love his honesty, and I love that no one can ever say that he doesn't work hard for his money. Also, in the process he gains just as much respect, as he does wealth. Bravo Mr. Combs! Now if he could just stop doing voice overs on the Danity Kane songs....

How Lovely

I've always been a fan of Michelle Williams, even (embarrased to admit), in the Dawson's Creek days. And we are all aware of the greyish halo that has recently been around her, but a profile in the April Elle issue, (done shortly before Heath Ledger's passing), the sparkle in her halo is in full force. The article written by Holly Millea shows a strong and intelligent gal behind the pixie cut, and also highlights her strong bond with her daugther Matilda Rose. The photo spread accompanying the interview really lets the light shine through the clouds, and shows Michelle in a simple and lovely way that we hope to continue to see more of.
