The First Pregnant Man on Oprah tomorrow

I saw a teaser for an upcoming Oprah show about an interiew with the world's first pregnant man and I thought it had to be an April fools joke. But after reading more I learned that it is indeed true but with a reasonable explanation. The man was formerly a woman. I can't decide whether this is lowest common denominator fodder or an interesting story about a transsexual's right to bear children. Tune in tomorrow to see Oprah's inteview.

Weird~

I'm glad you clarified that he was once a woman. I have to admit that this still "creeps" me out a bit. While I agree with Melissa that if men had to bear children workplace policies would DEF change ~ still don't know if I'd really want to see that happen.

I just read about this guy

yesterday! I really was perplexed about how it was even physically possible until I read about the part that he was born a woman. I had no idea that his story had made it Oprah, I will defintley be watching tomorrow!

Hmmm

The way I see it--if men want to start having babies and have the plumbing to do it, go nuts. Though it's pretty heavy on the "creep" factor, sociologically, this could work to our advantage. I learned last year when I took my leave that women in this country are given the shaft when it comes to maternity benefits. I bet once men start having babies, we'll start seeing year-long maternity leaves (with full pay) as well as government subsidized doulas, cooks, maids, psychologists, and personal training.
