IT'S GREAT...

To be in such a community of writers. Nice to meet you, Leigh. I know I'm late to the conversation, but how are you coming along with your novel? I am in the throes of writing my first novel as well. It's a story of two women who were childhood friends that became separated after a devastating car accident changes the life of one of the women for ever. Tell me what you think. I look forward to reading more of your diary.

David Gordon Green

"All The Real Girls" has been on my "Must Rent" list for quite some time now, but I haven't managed to see it yet. I'm bumping it to the top of my Netflix queue immediately. If you love DGG, check out this wonderful article that ran in "The Believer" not long ago: http://www.believermag.com/issues/200611/?read=interview_green Also, I think it's wonderful that you're working on a novel. It's something that I aspire to do one day. And here's a bit of bonus information about me: in my college days, I worked at an Aveda concept store. Best of luck in all you have coming up. I hope to see more of you on Splendora!

yes - everyday pushing ourselves - everyday looking towards the next best thing - and ever so essentially grabbing this crazy life by the balls. just the comment we needed today! good luck with your novel! looking forward to more diary posts from you. i've found the women at splendora to be a great inspiration....perhaps these pages could help conquer the "WB".

rock on... er, write on...

Hello Again!

I believe a workshop is just what you need if this is really something that you want to do. I just joined one myself! I find that workshops are great for supporting you through the process of writing as well as networking. I've been writing in some way all my life and after a two year stint as a teacher I've finally decided to take it seriously. I'd suggest that you begin your journey as an author by keeping a journal (this will assist you in finding your voice), and reading books by authors you admire or about sujects that interest you. I hope this will help.

Time and Space

I think Virginia Woolf was right when she said every woman needs a room of her own. Is your writing possible because you have the time and space to do so? Or, do you make the time and create a space. I feel so bogged down with family and work, writing seems like a luxury. Not to mention that at 40 I have yet to find my voice. I had a writing instructor that threw out the idea of a writers' workshop, I thought it was unnecessary at the time but now I can see it's usefulness.
