All Bow to the Queen

Everyone needs role models and Zadie Smith is my sheroe. After writing her first novel, "White Teeth" at the tender age of 23, Smith went on to an illustrious career as a wordsmith of ( in my opinion) unmatched talent. Her most recent work "On Beauty" takes the reader into the world of an English art history professor on tenur at a prestigious New England university (Harvard anyone?), his African-American wife, and their teenaged children. Both humorous and poignant, OB peels back the layers of nationality, ethnicity, and gender politics to reveal the complexities of familial love. Enjoy!

A Real 90s Moment

Ahh...Remember the 90s! Gangtsa Rap, Grunge, flannel, combat boots. I was just fliping through the stations on the radio and low and behold what I heard: "Live Forever" by Oasis. It really took me back to the days of my preadolescent rebellion when I would hike up the kilt of my school uniform and sing along to "Gin and Juice". Anyway, sure most girls liked Liam, but, am I the only one who thought Noel Gallagher was hot?

The Soundtrack of My Life

On the Jungle Floor is Van Hunt's second major label release, and I can't get enough (of the music or his photo; he's a hottie for real). If the Isley Brothers and the Stooges had a baby it would be Van; check out the track At the End of a Slow Dance, I'm sure you'll love him too.

Working Title?

Hi everybody ! I decided to take some time to ponder what might seem to many a trivial question right now seeing that I'm only in the the beginning stages of actually writing the story; this meaning that I have the story outlined so I know what's going to happen, I just have to finish writing the damn thing. FYI Ladies: writing a novel is hard, but worth the trouble. Anyway, back to my question I was wondering if you ladies would help me out on coming up with a working title for my book. Without giving too much away, its the story of a young woman coming of age in the DC area. She's involved in the arts. There are blind dates, dirty breakup sex with ex-boyfriends, lots of drinking, and yes political scandals involving the protagonist. Kind of like Girlfriends/Sex in the City in DC meets West Wing meets ArtStar (the Bravo series). Any suggestions? I'd love your input.

Block Party

Hello everyone! As I posted in my info I'm currently in the process of completing the first draft of my first novel. That said, I find myself increasingly engulfed in the clutches of writer's block hell. It doesn't help that it's summer and the sun is shining, and the birds are chirping... you get the picture. I've decided that what I need to do is become reinspired.; I've decided to throw a Block Party. What's that you ask? Well, a Block Party (my term) is when a writer(s) assembles a group of images and text that relate to the characters and the overall story of their book. Its basically like scrapbooking but with music, appetizers, and cocktails- in my case frozen whiskey sours and pigs in a blanket. Wish me luck!
