2001 called...it wants its cheesy short names back

This morning, all the headlines were bursting about "Madonna's affair with A-Rod." And I thought, "A-Rod, who the hell is that, some wrestler?" It took a few before I realized, "Ohhhh, Alex Rodriguez." For some reason, hearing the entire WORLD call him by his "short name" is really rubbing me the wrong way.  It all seems so very "Jennifer Lopez back in the 'Love Don't Cost a Thing' days." Which was fine ... seven years ago. Am I missing something -- is his shortened name that cool? Is his real name that complicated? Are sports reporters just that out of touch? And would Madonna really have an affair with someone named "A-Rod"? Okay, don't answer that.

The "Couple" Name

I wonder if the term "Bennifer" was a drunken accident that resulted when someone tried to say both names at once. I'm willing to bet it was Matt Damon.

Does that make you MeBe?

Short names are stalkerazzi faves: LiLo, ScarJo, etc. But I think the couple monikers are the WORST! Bennifer, Brangelina, CRINGE!!!! Although, I dated a guy named Alistair and my friends figured out that our couple moniker would be "Cinistair" (say it outloud) which was fitting b/c dating him was just that indeed that BAD...
