Life in Paris: Dream Weddings I've been to a few over-the-top weddings but I thought I'd reminisce about the most fabulous wedding I've ever attended. It was the wedding of Vanisha Mittal, daughter of Lakshmi Mittal one of the richest men in the world. A thousand people were invited by hand delivered invitations in sterling silver boxes. Guests were flown in from all around the word for a five-day, $50M celebration in Paris with the grand finale held at the glorious Chateaux de Vaux-le-Vicomte (where Eva Longoria had the shocking good taste to get married). There was a Bollywood Bonanza at a nightclub in Paris, fireworks from the Eiffel Tower, a party at Versailles, and Kylie Minogue performed. Normal people might balk and think, "My god, what a waste of money." but I guess when you have billions and billions, millions are like twenties from the ATM. I'm just thrilled I was a guest at such an extravagant occasion. I don't live quite this OTT myself but I do like to be a (butter)fly on the wall at these events. How else could I share it with my Splendora posse? Life in Paris: Vacation in the Desert Have you ever been to a place that fills you with wonder, serenity, and joy? Some people describe Paris this way but I've never felt it more than in Siwa, Egypt. I visited Siwa Ecolodge, a true desert oasis located near the Libyan border because a good friend of mine is opening a spa there. Legend has it that there were two great oracles: The Oracle of Delphi and The Oracle at Siwa. Alexander the Great was said to have crossed the desert to visit the latter prophetess who proclaimed him a deity and legitimate pharoah. And it is here on this sacred land that the lodge was built. Fashioned from clay, bricks, and wood, the lodge does not have electricity, room keys, or even a reception desk. But they do have hot showers and three star vegetarian cuisine served under date palms. It sounds very basic but it's actually luxury in an ancient form. Rooms are candelit. Corridors are torch lit. And at night we had a party out in the desert, in the middle of nowhere. We drank and danced around a fire. Some of us even got silly and collapsed (and rolled around in the cool sand). I've traveled the world over and have never experienced anything like it. I loved it so much that I'm going again in February (and hopefully every year!) Trust me, this place is amazing. Here's another traveler's take on it. Life in Paris: Sting's New Holistic Spa Well the spa isn't just Sting's. In fact, the new holistic healing spa on 63 Avenue Champs Elysees (with the epnymous name 63 Avenue Champs Elysees) is the brainchild of my friend Tracy Posner and her healer Jean Michel (also Sting and Madonna's). I attended the opening a few days ago and then went to Sting's concert with friends. I've met a lot of people in my life and am usually unfazed by fame and fortune but Sting is a formidable force. He also looks incredible! What's really hot here in Paris is the whole movement towards spirituality, holistic healing, Eastern philosophy. Everyone I know is interested in realigning their energy. I've tried it myslef and it feels amazing. Truly. I'll write more on this topic later. It's late in Paris and I need to realign my own energy starting with sleep. |
