Project Runway Review

OK, now that the new season has started I will commence with my weekly review of The Best Show On TV, otherwise known as Project Runway. Last night's episode was good as far as first episodes go. Did it seem like to anyone else that there's a s**tload of designers this year? Maybe it just seems like a lot. In a few weeks we won't even remember who was in these first few episodes. HE was on this show? Oh yeah! Didn't he get kicked off first (sorry, Jerry)?

As far as the challenge itself, I didn't really think the judges were on with their choices. I'm glad Jerry left, because the rocker in me really wants to see what Stella can do, and she did get kinda screwed with the trash bags (check out Bravo TV's website and you can review the runway looks). And I did really like Daniel's plastic cup dress, I think he deserved to win more than Kelli's coffee filter monstrousity. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVED what she did with the bottom, but the coffee filter boobs just weren't working for me. It was too obvious. I'm actually surprised that everyone liked it so much. At least she didn't use a tablecloth.

I actually really liked Kenley's dodgeball and lawnchair dress and thought that should have won. I thought Suede's (c'mon, the name Suede? Honestly?) tablecoth dress was awful and should have been in the bottom. And Korto's tablecoth dress was imaginative with the produce collar and made REALLY well (who could tell that it's a tablecloth? It looks immaculate) but I really didn't think it was as creative as some of the others and shouldn't have been in the top.

Don't get me wrong with the criticisms, I really admire each and every one of these designers. As a designer myself I understand just how hard it is to create ANYTHING in a matter of hours, and everyone on this show amazes me. But someone's got to go and I'm more than happy to offer my opinions, for what they're worth, agree or not agree. Anyway, I look forward to next week's episode. I hope someone cries!

Wesley's

gloves were freaking fantastic....I think the judges rushed some people off stage that should have gotten a closer look Kensley and Wesley being two of them...I also like that mop top that one lady made too.

Because I work on this show...

and look at 12 billion pics of each design from EVERY angle I can appreciate all the hard work that they all do on the pieces even if they look like they are jacked up. Additionally when the pieces come to our offices before they ship off I can see where some of them were rushing to 'make it Work' and had they had more time might've done something different. But again that is the name of the game. This being said I agree that Jerry's piece was not the best of the bunch, but there were definitely pieces I thought weren't great either that were waved over without an extreme verbal lashing from Michael. I personally LOVED Leanne's dress, Keith's dress, and Wesley's Dress.

I am most excited though, because next week Tim says "Holla at cha' boy!"

Sup holla!

In the beginning, I was really excited about Jerry -- his designs in the bio video were great. I was so disappointed to see him tank with that godawful creation. Poorly concepted, poorly crafted, and what was with the rubber gloves? Kenley has such a presence about her. If she makes it far enough, I see her being the next Alison Kelly (collection at Shopbop, anyone?)

My two-cents

Kenley's and Kelli's were my favorites by far and I agree Suede's outfit was pretty terrible and could have definitely put him in the bottom 3. The decision to boot Jerry was justified as his outfit was horrifying. I appreciate Daniel's creativity with the plastic cups and I know it must have been insanely difficult to work with, but I thought the dress fit very poorly. Blayne is already annoying me with his 'girlicious' phrases. Gag.

Oh Blaine...

My roommate and I were laughing while we were watching because she said he looks exactly like an Oompa Loompa...and he does!

Jerry's

sh*t was scary, at least the trash bag chick stuck to her own style even if it was butt ugly. I loved Daniel's plastic cup dress and I would have been okay with him winning, but Kelli's dress although not as visually stunny really captured the essence of the challange....the girl died vaccum cleaner bags, used push pins to create studding, and the sprial from a spiral notebook to create hook and eye closures that's going to always equal a win in my book. I agree I think kenley got hosed, partly because I dont' think it was obvious what materials she used, and the judges probably assumed table clothe. Korto is my favorite designer ( Kelli is a close second) so far like Nina said "she has taste"! As far as personality goes...I hope Jerrell stays on show for a while and that they keep Blaine away from a tanning beds!
