I got my hair cut!

Some women will look at that title and think, "big deal..."

Others, though, will be enticed to read on...for this is not just a big deal for some of us, but a hugely big deal. Our hair is probably the single most defining thing about us - particularly those of us who are interested in fashion and trends...and I should think that anyone on Splendora can be categorized as interested in fashion.

You'll all understand, then, the fear that one errant snip and it will take months to recover your identity.

I collect photos on my computer of women with GREAT HAIR. But what goes into that great hair is a list of stuff I simply don't have...stylists with a daily opening (not that I'd want him but I don't have my own Ken Paves), great makeup artists, great lighting...so I have always known that it's a little unrealistic for me to look at these longingly.

The funny thing is I have a variety of long and short too, so I am hard-pressed to decide a style based on a scroll through the pics. I have the Michelle Willams-Mia Farrow short style all the way through to a Lucy Liu long and wavy...and everything in between.

My hair was getting pretty long again and so I was particularly confused about what to do with it - continue to grow it, or take the plunge and chop it. It also wasn't looking so good - brassy and straggly - lovely, I know..especially for a style writer.

It's been about 9 weeks since my wedding and I got it cut and coloured for the occasion. When I went in to make an appointment with my regular stylist, I found out she had moved! So there I was, back at square one.

Anyway, I could go on and on, but if you're interested in the big reveal and a look, visit my blog - therealstraightpoop.blogspot.com!

My first time television reporting...

Fresh out of journalism school I was doing a story  (decidedly NOT breaking news) about learning how to rollerblade. Okay, this was 13 years ago, when rollerblading was new and hip.

It wasn't live to air but taped, thank god...for I watch the outtake now and laugh until I am crying!

I was a bit nervous and I forgot how to use the stick microphone. How is that possible? I was interviewing streeters, or people on the street (which in this case should be called skaters, as I was grabbing people blading by) and asking them about how to start.

The very first time I went to get a comment, I held the mic to their mouth and asked my question, then put the mic to my mouth as they were answering. The best part is when my cameraman said, "Uh Tamara?" I turned to look at him. He was having a hard time holding his laughter back..."You need to hold the mic in front of your mouth when you're talking..."

My response...blushing, almost fainting in humiliation, "Oh yeah. Right." The streeters must have thought I was a complete moron.

It might not seem so funny but the shot of my face is probably the best I have ever seen of myself in the 300 or so stories since. Absolutely a classic and one I shall be proud to see on a future bloopers episode.
