The District Government Diaries...

I spent the ENTIRE morning trapped at the DC Department of Health. Dressed fabulously, no less. Surrounded by disgruntled people and jaded employees, only to find out that what I needed, in the end, only took 5 minutes to get. Once I passed the all too self-important guards to the temple. Who forced me to take a number, then laughed once they called me and sent me up to the 6th floor with cackles of "Oh, honey, that's all you was waitin for?"

YES! Yes, that's all I was waiting for. A damn signature on my special events application for this city-wide, benchmark event that has gone on for 15 years. You'd think these kinds of events don't have to go through the usual rigmarole, but they do. My office is responsible for the annual 4th of July parade and fireworks, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the Fringe Theatre festival (in conjunction with the Capital Fringe office itself, of course), etc; we do MAJOR events for this city. But I have to run around in 90 degree, humid heat to get one measly signature!

I am so unbelievably bitter right now. Gah! Alright...I got that out, time to return to the happy Tammi I usually am.

I'll probably call up my friend to meet for lunch. She just got back from Cairo and I haven't seen her in a while. Plus, it'll take my mind off of this morning, and everything I'll have to do on Monday. AND this weekend.

Working on the weekends...UGH!

Cheers to bureaucracy! This week has been like living in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"!

xoxo
