On March 11th, USDA's Center for Nutrition
Policy and Promotion will be officially releasing the MyPyramid Menu
Planner. The Menu Planner interactively shows whether a person's
food choices are balanced for the day, or on average over a week; it
can help plan upcoming meals to meet MyPyramid goals; it provides
suggestions for potential ways to improve food choices; and it allows
for easy entry of foods for additional family members.
USDA is giving ADA members a "heads-up"
and a chance to try the Menu Planner before the official release date.
If you want to experiment with it now, you can access the MyPyramid
Menu Planner at http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/planner. This is the temporary home for the Planner
until next week when the direct website to the Planner will
be www.MyPyramid.gov/Planner.
There will also be a box on the MyPyramid.gov homepage that takes you
to the Menu Planner.
Please note than when previewing the Planner,
it may take up to one minute to search for the first food you enter.
This is because the program must cache the food database; this
only happens when you are the only person to have used the Planner in
the past hour or so. When the Planner is live, this will no
longer be an issue.
A press release announcing the MyPyramid Menu
Planner will go out to all media outlets next week. Beat the
rush and take this opportunity to try the Menu Planner before it goes
live.
